Attack the Snack Series – Banana “Ice Cream”

by Damon on July 7, 2012

This is the first in a series of posts I will be doing called “Attack the Snack” where I will be sharing recipes on making unhealthy foods in aHanging Bananas with Apples healthy way. I came up with this idea the other day when I was thinking of all the foods I’m not eating right now, that I absolutely love, because of my personal goal of having a six pack by my 35th birthday. Foods in this series will be things that are great healthy alternatives and recipes for making meals for cheat days a “little” healthier. I mean you got to cheat sometimes just to stay sane, right. Besides I’m not going to lie, I LOOOVE food especially junk food but if I’m going to reach my I’ve got to use moderation. Anyways here is the first recipe I hope you enjoy.

Banana “Ice Cream”

I have seen this recipe all over the internet for a long time but never had a real reason to try it, until now. It is super easy and tastes really good, if you like bananas. It is also a good alternative to those that are lactose intolerant or for those picky kids that won’t anything that’s good for them.

What You Will Need:

Bananas – 2  Makes about two servings.

1/4 Cup of Water

Wax Paper

Cookie Sheet

Blender/Food Processor

Spoon/Mixing Spatula

Step #1

Peal and slice up the two bananas into ½ in slices.

Step #2

Cover the cookie sheet with the wax paper and spread out the slices of banana.

Step #3

Put the cookie sheet into the freezer for a few hours

Step #4

Remove bananas from the freezer and put them in the blender/food processor add the 1/4 cup of water and blend until a smooth consistency. ( This will more than likely require you to blend for 10-20 seconds then open the blender and push the solid pieces to the bottom of the blender. And you may have to do this a few times to get all the pieces.)Should take about 5 minutes or so.

Step #5

Pour your freshly made banana “ice cream” into a bowl and enjoy. Or but the bowl back into the freezer for a little bit so the banana can firm up and have more of ice cream consistency, either way it good.

Additional Ingredients

In addition to the bananas you can add other items as well:

  • Cocoa
  • Peanut Butter
  • Strawberries, Raspberries or any other berries
  • Mint Leaves

Give this a try and let me know what you think. And as always if you have any other tips or ingredients let’s hear those too.
